The word alqanoon finds it's origin in Arabic means law. The 'al' is the defifinite article in Arabic similar to 'the' in English. Many languages has borrowed this word. In Hindi it is used 'kanoon' meanig law. In English the word 'canon' is defined as 'a general law, rule, principle, or criterion by which something is judged' popularly known as 'canon law'.
